When it comes to anime characters, hair is one of my top 5 favorite things to draw and color. Note that nothing here is a hard rule, and it’s just how I do things. When drawing curly hairstyles, first draw a coil or spring, and define the front part. You don’t need to draw every strand of hair like that (feel free to do so if you like though!).
Also, it’s good to work with S curves. Even if the hair is straight, drawing it with slightly curved lines (like a long, open S) will make the hair look light and flowy. The direction of your lines is important. The goal is to create a shape that is nicely balanced against the head.

Another essential tip for drawing anime hairstyles is to work with long, fluid lines, instead of short scratchy strokes. The direction of your lines is important. With the silhouette for the hair done, I check whether there are any unbalanced or weird-looking areas.
Starting from my reference point, I draw a few lines. This time, though, I draw them explicitly going outwards from that marked spot, growing towards the forehead. Don’t hesitate to erase what looks wrong and try again.

It’s tough to draw things when you don’t know what they look like in real life. In that case, using references is key! Whether you want to draw straight, wavy, curly, or crazy hair, references help you capture accurate details. Feeling stuck? Take breaks and look up new references to refresh your eyes.
Still unsure how to draw anime hair even after this tutorial? That’s completely normal! If there’s one thing to take from this tutorial, it’s this: use references! I believe you don’t actually need a step-by-step to learn something. Instead, try to understand and apply techniques in your own way.

After adding the base color, start shading hair by defining your light source. Remember those basic lessons about shading a sphere? Choose a color that is slightly darker than your base color, and use it to block out a general shape for the shadows. Once you have the general shape of your shadows in place, you can polish it to your liking. But for beginners, there’s no need to over-complicate things.
Does your illustration have warm or cool lighting? Like the following hair strand in a blue and red room: there’s a bit of each color on the shading. I tend to use colors already in the drawing and play around with them. Of course, you could get even more creative by mixing in unexpected shades.
This part is very fun, and there are many ways to add shine to the hair. First, airbrush the skin color onto the bangs before adding highlights. If you don’t know which color to use for highlights, take the base hair color, create a new layer, then set the blending mode to “Add (Glow).” After that, add blobs, triangles, lines, or any shape you like to create the highlight. When drawing highlights, consider also adding some messy strands.

For black haired or white haired anime characters, different shading techniques may apply to avoid the hair looking too gray or purple. As you can see from the image above, the backlight on the black hair matches the grey tones used on the white hair.
If your lineart has many smaller gaps, you can also try using the Magnetic Lasso sub-tool, which was added in Ver. Again, I close the lineart and color it to get a better overview of the shape.

You can use the same brush for both sketching and line art, but this will depend on how you want the final artwork to look. In this phase, you can also try making the lines thicker where they intersect or where shadows fall. Another little thing I enjoy is making the eyelashes and eyebrows slightly visible behind the hair. To do this, lock your lineart layer and color over it with a shade that’s darker or lighter than the base hair color to make it stand out. Try it!

But this is art, so there aren’t any complex rules for this! Let your hand flow, and practice your creativity. Gyakorlati lépések röviden: egyszerű menetrend
- Rajzolj egy kört a koponyának és egy vonalat a hajtövek jelöléséhez. (If you don’t know where the hair starts on the head, first draw a circle for the skull.)
- Határozd meg a sziluettet: nagy S-görbék, külső formák.
- Ossz fel nagyobb tincseket, ne szálanként dolgozz eleinte.
- Vázold meg a göndör részeknél a tekerccsel indított kanyarokat.
- Válassz fényforrást, blokkolj árnyékokat sötétebb tónussal, majd simítsd át.
- Adj fényeket: Add (Glow) réteg, formák (foltok, háromszögek, vonalak).
- Finomítsd a vonalvastagságot, adj meg néhány laza tincset és zárd a részleteket.
Hogyan rajzoljunk hajat

Az anime stílusú vázlatok nagyon gyorsan megtanulhatók. Egyszerűek, de aranyosak. Szokatlan arányok. A manga rajzolásnál a figuráknak mások az arányai - akár az arcot, akár az egész testet nézzük -, mint egy élő embernek. A manga szem sajátossága, hogy ez foglalja el az arc legnagyobb részét. Rajzolj egy kis orrot az arc közepére, az ajkakat pedig az aljára. Tedd nagyra és sötétre a szemedet.
Mielőtt neked kezdenél próbálj különböző tárgyakat, helyszíneket is lerajzolni gyakorlásképpen. Az első lépés az ábra alapjának sematikus ábrázolása. Ezt követően a képet terjedelmesebbé kell tenni. Ezután a rajzot apró részletekkel kell kiegészíteni: kecses kezek, ruhák és ékszerek rajzolásához. Amikor a ceruzavázlat elkészült, a karaktert már csak ki kell színezni.
További tanácsok
- Használj jó minőségű eszközöket: A vázlatfüzet papírjának nehéznek, a ceruzának pedig puhanak kell lennie. Legyen kéznél egy jó minőségű radír is.
- Próbálj különböző színezési és textúra technikákat (akvarell marker, pasztell, digitális airbrush).
- Ne feledd: gyakorlás, gyakorlás és gyakorlás.
